Our Google rating is 5.0 from 75 reviews. Here are a few of them, in brief.
-
We spoke to four firms about our walnut tree. Most said fell it; Nico alone put the tree’s health first, explained when it should be cut, and the team came back the following winter to shape it again.

They pruned six trees and took out two awkward ones, with proper safety kit for the work by the road. Everything was chipped, the garden and drive were spotless, and they checked before leaving me logs.

Our two silver birches were thinned and a prunus and acer trimmed. Nico knew his trees, kept checking I was happy as they went, and explained it all. Hard-working, polite team at a fair price.

Tree surgery in Cirencester: your questions answered
Permission, timing, nesting birds, waste and prices, as they apply to trees in and around Cirencester.
Got a question about a tree that isn’t answered here? Nico is happy to give advice.
Call 07473 445549Do I need permission from the council before tree work in Cirencester?
Sometimes. If a tree has a Tree Preservation Order on it, Cotswold District Council has to give consent before most work. If it stands in a conservation area, which takes in much of central Cirencester, you must give the council six weeks’ written notice before cutting or removing a tree with a trunk 7.5cm or more across, measured 1.5 metres above the ground. The council can tell you whether either applies.
When is the best time of year to prune a tree?
For most broadleaved trees, late autumn to late winter, when they are dormant and the branches are easy to see. Birch, walnut and maples bleed sap if they are cut in late winter or spring, so they are better pruned between midsummer and early winter. Cherries and plums are pruned in summer, which lowers the risk of silver leaf disease.
Can trees and hedges be cut during the bird nesting season?
Yes, with care. Wild birds’ nests are protected by law while they are being built or used, and the main nesting season runs from March to August. Trees and hedges are checked before cutting, and if there is an active nest, the work near it waits until the young have left.
What happens to the branches and wood?
Branches go through our wood chipper on site and the chippings are taken away with the rest of the waste, so your garden is left tidy. If you have a wood burner, the bigger wood can be cut into logs and left for you instead. Just say when we quote.
Can you grind out the stump after a tree removal?
Yes. Stump grinding takes the stump down below ground level so the area can be turfed, planted or paved over later. The grinder needs a route to the stump, so let us know about narrow side passages or steps when you get in touch.
Do you deal with emergencies such as fallen trees?
Yes. If a storm brings down a tree or a large branch, or leaves one split and hanging over a house, road or path, call 07473 445549 at any time of day or night. Keep everyone clear of it until it has been made safe.
Is the quote free, and what affects the price?
Quotes are free. The price depends on the size and condition of the tree, how easy it is to reach, what is underneath it, and whether you want the wood taken away or left as logs. Nico will usually come and look at the tree before confirming a price.
